What New Patients Can Expect at Windsor’s Coscarella Dentistry

Are you looking for a new dentist in the Windsor area? Our staff here at Coscarella Family Dentistry are always accepting new patients, and we’d be happy to add you to our roster. Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect during your first appointment at our Windsor office.

First Steps

Welcome to our office! When you check in at our front desk, you’ll be given a few forms to fill out in the waiting room. You’ll be asked about your medical history, contact information, emergency contacts, and other relevant details. You’ll also provide your insurance information at this time. Try to arrive around 10 minutes early to give yourself the time needed to do this.

Once you’ve submitted your completed forms, one of our dental assistants will take you to a special room to get your X-rays done. New patients usually receive bitewing and panoramic X-rays so our dentists can spot developing cavities, bone loss, and other issues that can’t be diagnosed with the naked eye. There is very little radiation involved in this process, and you’ll wear a lead vest during the procedure for extra protection.

Cleaning and Exam

Next, you’ll get a dental cleaning from one our dentists or hygienists. They’ll scrape off any tartar on your teeth and polish them with a special fluoride paste. This will help keep your teeth and gums healthy and make it easier for the dentist to spot any problems during their exam. This may take a while if it’s been several years since your last cleaning, but don’t worry. Our team has decades of experience handling tricky cases, and we never judge our patients.

After your cleaning, we’ll move on to your dental exam. One of our dentists will review your X-rays with you, pointing out any areas of concern. They’ll also discuss your oral health history and oral hygiene habits with you to better understand your needs.

Your dentist will examine your teeth and gums using tools like a mirror and a probe. They’ll look for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, dental trauma, and other common problems. They’ll also measure the depth of the pockets around your gums to determine whether you would benefit from a deep cleaning.

At this time, you can also bring up any cosmetic treatments you might be interested in getting. Your dentist will discuss your options with you and help you weigh the pros and cons of each.

Follow-Up Care

If your teeth and gums are healthy, your first appointment will end here. Remember to make an appointment for your next cleaning at the reception desk before you leave!

If you need further treatments like fillings or a deep cleaning, your dentist will let you know and recommend booking an appointment to get that work done. They may also suggest ways to improve your oral hygiene routine, such as flossing more regularly or switching to an electric toothbrush.
